ABOUT THE ROLE Healthdirect Australia is a national, government-owned, not-for-profit organisation that provides health and wellbeing information and advice to the population through a range of services and devices. In operation since 2006, we work across health, pregnancy and birth, childhood and aged care, delivering efficient and effective services to Australians no matter where they live. Reporting to Healthdirect Australia’s General Counsel and Company Secretary, and working on a daily basis across all business areas, the primary purpose of this role is to support the business through: The provision of legal expertise towards sound commercial decision making ensuring that all contract development and negotiations are conducted within acceptable parameters to protect intellectual capital, commercial viability and funding sustainability. Ensuring Healthdirect Australia's rights are fully protected through the provision of internal and external legal counsel and guidance in corporate advisory and common law litigation. Actively ensuring that all corporate functions and service delivery operations are conducted within the limits prescribed by law and various government funding agreements highlighting business risks and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. ABOUT THE CANDIDATE To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience navigating a complex multi-stakeholder environment to successful outcomes and collaborating closely and frequently with team members. A motivated self-starter with a passion for detail and quality of work will thrive in this role, working alongside an already highly capable and qualified team. The successful candidate will have; Minimum 6 years post-graduate Senior Associate experience in a mid-top tier firm. Demonstrated considerable knowledge of relevant statutory and legislative requirements in Australia, including the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). Experience in taking legal instructions from internal and external stakeholders identifying key legal risks and solutions to those key legal risks. Proven ability to successfully draft, interpret and negotiate a range of complex commercial and corporate contracts and legal documents. Broad knowledge of and interest in health industry and government sector trends and issues, and an understanding of the Company’s authorising environment. Tertiary qualifications in law and admitted to practice as a solicitor, holding a current practicing certificate. Membership of Institute of Company Directors preferred.
