Job Description

Chapman Tripp is New Zealand's pre-eminent law firm. We deliver the highest levels of legal and business performance to our clients - we are strategic, commercial, decisive and personal. Our lawyers work on projects that are helping define New Zealand's future, and as part of our team, you'll be in the thick of the action. If you are talented and looking to make a difference, Chapman Tripp has the resources, reputation and mind set to propel you to the top.

About the role

Our Wellington-based finance team is looking for a law clerk. This is an interesting and challenging role that will suit an enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys cultivating strong working relationships.

This role will ideally suit someone who is keen to kick off their career in law in a top firm and has a keen interest in the finance world. As the successful candidate, you will be working directly with three of New Zealand’s leading finance partners, Leigh Kissick, Emma Sutcliffe, and Mark Reese, getting involved in a range of matters. Our team works on finance law, including from a sustainability perspective, commercial and financing aspects of large infrastructure projects, project and asset financing, and cross-border transactions. There is a lot to get involved in, and the work will be varied!

Being thrown in at the deep end is great for learning and development, however we always pair this with a strong support network and buddy system. As a successful law clerk in our finance team, you will be given the room to take initiative and showcase your skills, while having a close-knit team to back you up.

Working for Chapman Tripp

Our firm is full of people who enjoy a challenge, team work and are prepared to have a lot of fun along the way. You’ll join a group of talented, high-performing people who believe in having a life outside of work. Whether you’re a marathon runner, dancer, film enthusiast, history buff or underground chef, we encourage our people to get out of the office when they don’t need to be here.

We are committed to providing a workplace environment where all our people can thrive and enjoy coming to work each day.  We are also about to move into our new premises later this month, that will encourage more collaboration!

As part of our commitment to diversity & belonging, we are committed to creating a culture of belonging which focuses on equal opportunity, merit and providing tools to be our best.  We cultivate a flexible and supportive workplace environment that meets the needs of our people and our firm, and welcome applications for this position from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements.
