About Us

GREENFIELD LAWYERS is a boutique law firm specialising in criminal defence advice & litigation, based in Bankstown and regarded as the leading criminal defence lawyers in Sydney's southwest. We advise and appear in all criminal and traffic matters (from drink driving to homicide) and, to a limited extent, other related areas of law such as civil litigation against the police and regulatory matters.

About the role

We now have one (2) positions available for an eligible student in their final year of law to undertake the Practical Legal Training component of their pre-admission requirements with us.

In this role, you will be exposed to all facets of a criminal defence practice, including:

• Taking instructions from clients and interviewing witnesses - in office or at a correctional centre;
• Liaising with external parties, such as the court, police, prosecutors, witnesses, barristers and other solicitors;
• Legal research and analysis;
• Drafting legal documents, such as briefs to counsel, subpoenas, written submissions, affidavits and witness statements;
• Attending court with solicitors to assist or with barristers to instruct or assist them;
• Appearing in in procedural or administrative proceedings (mentions); and
• Other administrative and clerical duties.

Please note this role is an unpaid fulltime volunteer position. However, all our solicitors are employed directly from the PLT pool, and as such there may well be a prospect of employment as a junior solicitor following the completion of your PLT placement.

About you

To be successful, you will need to meet the following criteria:

• A genuine interest in criminal and evidence law and court advocacy;
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Possess excellent research and problem-solving skills; and
• Be available to start immediately and work on a full-time basis (Mon-Fri each week).

Prior experience in criminal law or law generally will assist, but is not necessary.
