Full-time PLT Work Experience Placement

Job Description

The Aboriginal Legal Service provides free legal representation for Aboriginal people. Volunteers have played a crucial role in the service's successes.

The Aboriginal Legal Service, Grafton is looking for a law student seeking to complete the PLT component of their law degree to commence this phase of their studies as soon as is practicable. 

We are looking for someone who:

  • possesses exceptional communication skills, oral and in writing;
  • is a team player;
  • can work autonomously when required;
  • has an interest in assisting disadvantaged groups;
  • has a passion for criminal law;
  • is self-motivated;
  • has initiative;
  • is productive; and
  • is curious and willing to learn.

During your PLT at our office you will:

  • Conduct legal research;
  • Create case strategies;
  • Attend the court;
  • Liaise with office staff, other institutions and external personnel;
  • Interview clients and witnesses;
  • Take client instructions;
  • Manage client files;
  • Undertake general administrative duties; and
  • Actively participate in field trips to indigenous communities.

Please note that this is an unpaid, student placement with the provision of full-time supervision by the principal solicitor operating out of the Grafton office.
