Practical Legal Training Placement with possibility of ongoing employment

We are an established family law practice that has been operating in Dandenong since the year 2000. We are dedicated to providing advice in all aspects of family law. Our lawyers and staff deal exclusively with family law issues including property settlements and arrangements for children.

We are seeking a Practical Legal Training Placement at our firm. We are open to candidates seeking their placement on a part-time basis but require a commitment of no less than 3 days per week. We are also seeking candidates to have a demonstrated interest in family law, whether this is having studied the subject as part of their course or PLT, or having volunteer or similar experience.

 Key responsibilities:

1. Assist professional and administrative staff with the day to day functioning of the firm including greeting clients, answering phone calls, booking potential client appointments;
2. Drafting general documents to be used in the provision of legal advice;
3. Drafting court documents to be used in family law litigation matters;
4. Drafting settlement documents;
5. Sitting in on conferences with clients, court hearings; and
6. Other responsibilities as directed by the legal and administrative staff.

Key skills required:

1. High level written, verbal and interpersonal skills;
2. Eagerness to learn and a ‘can do’ attitude;
3. Can commit to a minimum of 3 days per week;
4. Must have completed law degree (whether undergraduate or post graduate) and is currently completing a graduate diploma of legal practise or other required practical experience in order to obtain admission as a lawyer in Victoria;
