Paid Practical Legal Training (PLT) Position – Family Law

Are you a Wollongong or Illawarra-based law graduate looking to complete your Practical Legal Training in a supportive, hands-on family law practice?

We are a well-established family law firm from the South Coast, expanding into Wollongong, and we are offering a paid PLT position for a motivated graduate who wants genuine, practical experience in family law — not just observation from the sidelines.

About the Role

This paid PLT position offers meaningful exposure to all aspects of family law, including:

• Assisting with parenting and property matters
• Drafting correspondence, court documents and affidavits
• Attending court, mediations and client conferences in the Illawarra
• Preparing matters for the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia
• File management and client interaction

You’ll gain practical experience relevant to regional and Wollongong-based practice, with real responsibility and close supervision.

About You

This role would suit a graduate who:

• Has completed (or is close to completing) their law degree
• Is eligible to undertake Practical Legal Training
• Is based in, or has strong ties to, Wollongong or the Illawarra
• Has a genuine interest in family law
• Is organised, empathetic and professional
• Is keen to grow with a firm establishing its presence in Wollongong

Prior legal or paralegal experience is welcomed but not essential.
