Volunteer PLT paralegal opportunity
Minimum three days per week: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Mental Health Law Centre, 255 Hay St, Subiaco, WA
Mental Health Law Centre (WA) is a specialist community legal centre. We provide legal assistance to people with mental illnesses, which illnesses are causally related to their legal issues. We specialise in mental health advocacy at the Mental Health Tribunal, criminal defence work at courts, and human rights advocacy on guardianship and administration matters at the State Administrative Tribunal. Periodically, we recruit suitably qualified law graduates as volunteer PLT paralegals. Our paralegals perform crucial tasks. Most of your work will involve direct client and stakeholder contact through our telephone advice line; however you will also undertake legal research; drafting of advice, documents and submissions subject to lawyers’ supervision; casework file administration and client interviews. You will work closely with our lawyers and with each other.
You will be a recent law graduate, undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and able to commit to a minimum of three (3) work days per week for the purpose of your PLT requirements.
Experience in legal and/or customer service industries is preferable but not essential.
