Part-time PLT Work Experience Placement

Job Description

Central Coast Community Legal Centre (CCCLC) is seeking full-time or part-time volunteers wishing to complete their practical legal training in a busy generalist practice that provides free legal services to people living, working or studying on the Central Coast.  These are unpaid positions.

You must:

  • Have completed or be close to completing College of Law, or its equivalent at a participating university;
  • Ideally be able to work at least 2 days a week and
  • Attend a compulsory two-day General Orientation and Intake Training.

Scheduled 2019 orientation dates are:

  • 18th and 19th February 2019
  • 29th and 30th April 2019
  • 1st July and 2nd July 2019
  • 2nd and 3rd September 2019
  • 4th and 5th November 2019

Applications aimed for particular orientation dates should be submitted at least three weeks prior to allow interviews to take place.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and assessed on relevant skills as well as a demonstrated interest in and commitment to not-for-profit organisations and the community sector.  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are highly encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to candidates who live on the Central Coast and candidates who want to complete at least 45 days with CCCLC.

During your placement with CCCLC you can expect to be exposed to a wide range of legal matters, including debt, fines, family, employment, discrimination, motor vehicle accidents, Apprehended Violence Orders and more!

You will gain experience in providing legal information and referral services by telephone, interviewing clients, attending outreach locations, drafting legal letters and court documents, undertaking legal research, developing community legal education materials, engaging in community development and participating in systemic advocacy.

Based in Wyong NSW, CCCLC provides free legal advice to homeless people at Coast Shelter in Gosford; to disadvantaged people at Toukley Neighbourhood Centre and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders at Mingaletta at Umina and Yerin - Elanor Duncan Aboriginal Health Centre at Wyong.  We advise unrepresented litigants in Traffic and AVO matters at Wyong Local Court and operate a Children’s Court Assistance Scheme at Wyong, Woy Woy and Broadmeadow Children’s Courts.
