Job Description

HIV/AIDS Legal Centre is a not-for-profit Community Legal Centre.

We are seeking volunteer law students/PLT students/solicitors who can commit to volunteering at least three days a week for three months to join our PLT/Paralegal Program.

HALC provides legal advice and representation to people with HIV related legal matters. We provide legal services to people who are HIV positive and those at risk of HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis.

Volunteers and placement students are given a wide range of legal work experience in a supportive professional environment. You will have the opportunity to work independently on matters under supervision, drafts submissions and correspondence, attend Courts and Tribunals, and have close client contact for a uniquely wide range of matters at a Community Legal Centre. 

Applicants must be able to assist a variety of people facing stigma or who are from vulnerable backgrounds in an inclusive, supportive way.

  • minor criminal
  • immigration - including asylum seeker matters
  • wills and end of life planning
  • superannuation insurance claims (TDP)
  • employment
  • tenancy
  • health related complaints
