Exciting Opportunity for a Volunteer PLT Student in a Boutique Law Firm!

Gowland Legal is a boutique law firm located in the Inner West, Dulwich Hill. The firm prides itself on caring for clients, for staff and high-quality legal work.

We are close to public transport and free parking. 

Gowland Legal has a strong reputation in the legal community. We are active in the social justice areas of women’s issues, domestic violence, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights and LGBTIQ recognition.

The firm specialises in providing legal assistance to clients in the areas of: Family law, Wills and other Estate Documents, Probate, Estate Disputes, and Conveyancing. 

PLT Position: Part-time

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic law student or graduate looking for voluntary work experience to complete their practical legal training.

We seek enthusiastic PLT Applicant to commence immediately.

We seek an applicant who is available for up to 2 days each week. The successful applicant must be available each Monday.     

No prior experience? No problems at all. We are very welcoming here and are ready to teach you what you need to know about working in a law firm.

You will be mentored by our friendly solicitors and your duties will include:

  • Various general office duties and taking phone calls; 
  • Client interviewing;
  • Drafting affidavits and court documents;
  • Drafting correspondence;
  • Attending court and mediations;
  • File management;
  • Utilising LEAP software system; and
  • Legal research.


In addition to these legal duties, you are encouraged to contribute content and assist in managing our social media and legal blog.


Of particular importance to your future legal career will be your involvement in the Gowland Awards. It is an event where all domestic violence front-line workers in the community and private sector are celebrated for all their efforts in domestic violence prevention.  It will be an opportunity to network and attend this exclusive event.


Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated in their CV:

  • Superior people skills;
  • A sound understanding of the issues particularly faced by women;
  • High levels of professional integrity;
  • A strong capacity to follow instructions;
  • A strong capacity to work independently;
  • Strong written & oral communication skills; and
  • An excellent ability to maintain confidentiality.


You must:

  • Have completed or be close to completing College of Law or its equivalent at a participating university;
  • Available each Monday. 
  • Ideally be able to work at 1 or 2 days a week; and
  • Undertake a minimum of 75 days of practical legal training at Gowland Legal.


This is an unpaid position – but don’t let that stop you. You will walk away with a wealth of knowledge and many achievements to place on your resume.
