Job Description

This is an pro bono placement which involves attending callover days in the Federal Circuit Court, meeting with potential asylum seeker clients, obtaining relevant documents from them, and giving a recommendation to our team of barristers on whether the case has reasonable prospects of success. It also involves working with the barrister on the case.  It offers very hands-on experience with all aspects of refugee and asylum seeker work. The opportunity may also arise to work with the barrister on Federal Court, Full Federal Court and High Court matters. Ideal for someone looking to work in the area of administrative law.


Please note that this position is not appropriate for admitted lawyers seeking to satisfy their required period of supervised legal practice for the purpose of obtaining an unrestricted practising certificate as a solicitor.

  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Availability to attend callover days in-court as required (callover days are currently on Thursdays but this can be subject to change.)
