The Welfare Rights Centre is a community legal centre specialising in social security law and its administration by Centrelink.

We advise people about their social security rights, entitlements and obligations and assist people through the social security review and appeals system. That system includes Centrelink internal review, the Social Security Appeals Tribunal and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The Centre also provides assistance to the community through community development, community education and training, law reform and lobbying.

The Welfare Rights Centre is looking for a law student or graduate to complete their practical legal training (PLT) placement at our Centre for 2 days a week. The Centre understands that the minimum requirement for completing PLT placement is 15 days. The Centre is looking for someone who would find value in completing 25+ days of placement to gain meaningful experience in a community legal centre. This is an opportunity to get experience working at a Community Legal Centre that specialises in social security law. Our centre advises and advocates for clients in matters relating to the administration of social security payments by Centrelink.
