About the Position
We are looking to fill a maternity leave position with a friendly solicitor or law graduate who has an interest in property law, commercial law and litigation. This role will predominantly consist of residential and commercial conveyancing, subdivisions, and retail leases. As conveyancing is highly procedural, this role requires organization, prioritization and attention to detail. It will also at times require you to provide advice to clients (under supervision) on an array of legal issues in Contracts and Vendor Statements.
Given we are a small firm, you will be required to assist the other staff where required/when absent. This may include undertaking research on questions of law and/or procedural issues; assisting with debt recovery files (small debtors) and assisting the Principal Solicitor on other miscellaneous legal matters. You may also assist in providing stamp duty advice and lodging different transactions at the State Revenue Office and Land Titles Office. At times you will need to assist on our ongoing litigation file, which includes filing documents and liaising with counsel.
This role will also require you to perform usual office functions, such as reception duties, accepting payment of accounts, the filing of court documents, taking the mail and banking etc.
This role will provide the chosen candidate with a foundational understanding of property and commercial law, exposure to the operations of a legal firm and a chance to gain experience in a wide variety of practice areas.
