Joss Legal is in an exciting period of growth and we are now seeking a suitably experienced, motivated and dedicated individual to join our team to complete a Practical Legal Training Placement who is committed to achieving the best outcome for every client.

You will be exposed to a variety of interesting family law, employment law and Wills & Estates matters, which will assist in taking your career to the next level!

Key responsibilities:  

  • Liaising with clients either over the telephone or in person.

  • Liaising with other lawyers, barristers and other businesses as required.

  • Preparing and lodging documents with the court and other relevant bodies.

  • Managing your own files.

  • Opportunity to participate in pro bono and legal aid matters.

  • Providing quality written and verbal advice to clients, supervised by an experienced solicitor.

  • Attending the Family Court, Magistrates Court and Supreme Court.

  • Networking  within the community through various avenues.

  • Perform other related duties as requested.

To be considered for this position you will need to demonstrate the following essential criteria and personal attributes:

  • Possession of tertiary qualification and be admitted to practice as a solicitor in Western Australia. Be commencing your Practical Legal Training in 2026, or have already commenced.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of people at all levels with an ability to be personable and have a collaborative approach to Family Law.

  • Must be well organised and able to juggle multiple tasks - dynamic, and action-orientated, who meets deadlines and makes it happen.

  • Sound knowledge of LEAP Practice Management Software (desirable).

  • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Mircrosoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook.

  • Be hard working with an exceptional work ethic.

  • Be passionate about family, employment and estate law while being compassionate and empathetic towards clients.

  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively.

  • Have a solid working knowledge of family law and its practical application.

  • Have knowledge of estate law and experience preparing Wills (desirable).

  •  Be capable of completing complex property matters, financial agreements, parenting disputes, child support issues, de-facto matters.

  • Have exposure and experience in advising client's in regards to related companies, trusts, partnerships and superannuation funds.

  • Have extensive experience on dealing with barristers, accountants, valuers and other professionals.

  • Have solid negotiation skills also be able to effectively advocate for your client in court.

  • Have excellent writing skills and be capable of drafting quality family law documents and letters of advice.

  • Must have ability to build and maintain relationships.

  • Must possess an enthusiastic and approachable personality.

  • Enjoy contributing and working in a small team.
