Purpose of Position
The role of the PLT student is to provide paralegal support, administration and research assistance to the lawyers within the Family, Domestic Violence and Elder Law Practice. The PLT Student is expected to be enrolled in a PLT program at a recognised Australian university or college, be highly motivated, resourceful and have the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

proficiency in client relations, including the ability to deal with queries and complaints with discretion (confidentially and tactfully where appropriate)

Duties

Central Coast Community Legal Centre (CCCLC) is seeking part-time volunteers wishing to complete their practical legal training in a busy generalist practice that provides free legal services to people living, working or studying on the Central Coast. These are unpaid positions.
Based on government COVID criteria, our current office layout can only safely accommodate a small number of volunteers hence we no longer accept under graduates.
You must:
Have completed or be close to completing College of Law, or its equivalent at a participating university;
Be able to work 2 days a week (block placements are unlikely as it affects the number of volunteers we can offer a placement)
Complete at least 75 days and
Attend a compulsory two-day General Orientation and Intake Training.
We are scheduling interviews from 27 th January for the next intake:
Early February
Applications aimed for particular orientation dates should be submitted at least three weeks prior to allow interviews to take place. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and assessed on relevant skills as well as a demonstrated interest in and commitment to not-for-profit organisations and the community sector. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are highly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who live on the Central Coast and candidates who want to complete at least 75 days with CCCLC.

We advise unrepresented litigants in Traffic and AVO matters at Wyong Local Court, AVO matters at Gosford Local Court and operate a Children’s Court Assistance Scheme at Wyong, Woy Woy and Broadmeadow Children’s Courts.

As a PLT student at JusticeNet, you will receive legal training, supervision and valuable experience to set you up for your legal career. We are looking for students who are not only passionate about the law but who are interested in using their skills to improve access to justice for people facing disadvantage.
Due to Covid-19, PLT students at JusticeNet during 2021 may be remotely supervised. In that event, students will still have contact with their supervisor at least once during each allocated shift.
