  • $81,496-$90,227 + 12% superannuation (VPS Grade 3.1 position)

Position Details

The Honourable Justice Fox is seeking a legally qualified individual to be her associate with an estimated commencement date in late August 2026. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

About the Court

The Supreme Court of Victoria is the highest court in Victoria and comprises the Court of Appeal and the Trial Division. The Court deals with major criminal and civil matters, plus appeals against decisions of lower courts.

 The role

Excellent writing and proofreading skills and a strong academic record are essential, along with personal qualities suitable for liaising with the profession and members of the public. An individual with up to two years' post-graduate experience would be ideal, but it is not a prerequisite. The successful applicant must have a genuine interest in criminal law. 

One or more of the following would be advantageous: experience on the editorial committee of a university law journal; mooting; research work for an academic; and/or a higher degree in law.

Duties include:

  • Performing administrative tasks, including maintaining Court records and preparing material for use by the Judge in Court;
  • Preparing research and briefing memoranda and assisting in the production of judgments, papers and presentations, including proofreading and editing;
  • Speaking in Court – empanelling juries, taking verdicts and arraigning the accused;
  • Jury keeping duties during trial; and
  • Liaising with Court staff, the public, the media and the profession.
