Genesis Legal Partners – Legal Graduate Training Program
The transition from law school to legal practice can be challenging.
A graduate can complete their degree and practical legal training while having had relatively limited exposure to the day-to-day realities of working in a law firm.
At Genesis Legal Partners, we believe there should be a better pathway.
We are looking for motivated law graduates who want to develop genuine practical experience, build confidence and learn what it takes to become a capable solicitor.
Our approach is simple:
Give you the opportunity. Train you properly. Give you increasing responsibility. Assess your development. And, for the right person, build a long-term career together.
This is more than a PLT placement.
It is a career pathway.

Long-Term Career Development
Your PLT placement is the starting point.
For candidates who demonstrate the right ability, attitude, work ethic and cultural fit, there is an opportunity to continue into our 6-month paid Graduate Legal Training Program.
The program is designed to bridge the gap between law school and real legal practice, while giving both you and the firm the opportunity to determine whether there is a long-term fit.
Candidates who successfully demonstrate the required standard throughout the program may be offered a full-time Graduate / Junior Solicitor position.
We don't expect you to arrive as an experienced solicitor.
That's what we're here to help you become.
Throughout the program, you will receive practical training, supervision and regular feedback while progressively developing your ability to:
As your skills and confidence develop, so will your level of responsibility.
Depending on your interests, capabilities and the needs of the firm, you may gain practical exposure to:
You will have the opportunity to experience how legal work is actually performed — not simply observe from the sidelines.
We are not necessarily looking for the candidate with the longest resume.
We are looking for someone worth investing in.
You may be a strong fit if you are:
Previous legal experience is beneficial, but we place significant value on attitude, work ethic, potential and the ability to learn.
We can teach you the practical aspects of legal practice.
We cannot teach you to care about the quality of your work.
If your primary objective is simply to complete your minimum PLT requirements and move on, this probably isn't the opportunity for you.
We are looking for people who want to:
Learn. Improve. Take responsibility. Build a career.
The program involves genuine work, increasing expectations, regular feedback and accountability.
We would rather invest our time in developing one excellent future solicitor than simply fill a PLT placement.
Treat clients, colleagues and other professionals with respect and maintain a high professional standard.
Take ownership of your work, your deadlines and your mistakes.
Don't simply wait for instructions. Learn to identify what needs to be done and take appropriate action.
Legal work requires accuracy. Small mistakes can have significant consequences.
You will receive feedback throughout the program. We expect you to listen, learn and apply it.
We are investing significant time and resources into your development. We expect you to invest in yourself as well.
This is not an arrangement where you are simply given a desk and expected to work things out yourself.
You will receive structured training, supervision and ongoing feedback, with your responsibilities increasing as your capability develops.
The objective is to progressively move you from:
Learning → Assisting → Performing → Taking Responsibility
By the end of the program, our aim is for a successful candidate to have developed the practical skills and confidence expected of a junior solicitor.
Our long-term objective is to identify talented graduates early and develop them within the firm.
The potential pathway is:
PLT Student
↓
Graduate Legal Trainee
↓
Graduate / Junior Solicitor
↓
Developing Solicitor
↓
Experienced Solicitor
The 6-month Graduate Legal Training Program is both a development and assessment pathway.
Completion of the program does not automatically guarantee a permanent position.
Candidates who demonstrate the required legal capability, professionalism, work ethic, performance, client service and cultural fit may be offered ongoing employment as a Graduate / Junior Solicitor.
We are serious about finding the right people, so our selection process goes beyond simply reviewing a CV.
Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a practical written assessment and attend an interview.
We want to understand how you:
Your academic results matter, but they are not the only thing we look at.
We want to see the person behind the resume.
