MASTER RUSSELL
Salary: Level 2.4 under the Public Sector CSA Agreement 2024
Applications are invited for the position of an Associate to Master Russell of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
This is a full-time position commencing in late October 2026 for an initial term concluding on 31 December 2027, with the possibility of extension.
Applicants should possess the following attributes:
• A law degree or working towards completion of a law degree;
• A high level of academic achievement;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• High-level legal research, analytical and editorial skills;
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and produce accurate, high-quality written materials;
• Excellent workload planning, organisational and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional environment.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake legal research and produce high-quality written work under time pressure. They will also play a key role in the administration of the Master’s chambers, including assisting with the management of internal and external communications, listing matters for hearing, preparing for Court sittings, attending in Court as a Judicial Support Officer and preparing orders.
Service in this position may fulfil the work experience component of Practical Legal Training courses approved by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia. Applicants should make their own enquiries in this regard. Applicants who have already been admitted to practice as a lawyer and would welcome the experience of working as an Associate are also encouraged to apply.
