Executive Director, QLD – Full time, permanent

Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The Executive Director, Queensland, leads the effective delivery and growth of COLQ operations, turning strategy into action and ensuring strong performance across programs and services. Working within clear governance and compliance frameworks, the role drives operational excellence, builds productive stakeholder relationships, and fosters a positive, high‑performing culture that supports the organisation’s evolving needs.

Key Accountabilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Develop COLQ's annual business goals in alignment with the strategic goals of the wider organisation.
  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of COLQ's business plan and associated programs, ensuring operational clarity, measurable performance indicators, and effective resource allocation.

Financial Management

  • Deliver revenue, enrolment  and performance targets for COLQ in line with College's objectives.
  • Develop, manage and monitor the COLQ budget within delegated authority, ensuring sound financial management and early escalation of variances.  

External Relationships

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies, the judiciary, Universities, law students and the Profession in general
  • Strengthen engagement with the alumni community and support initiatives that enhance long -term relationships and connection with the College.

Compliance and Governance

  • Support and coordinate the operational interface with the local Chapter Board, ensuring effective governance workflows and timely reporting.
  • Maintain a strong collaborative working relations with the Chair of the Chapter Board to support effective decision making and oversight 
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies associated with COLQ and the College Group 

Growth and New Business

  • Drive sustainable growth across COLQ programs and services
  • Identify and support the development of new legal education markets and service offerings within delegated authority

Leadership and Management

  • Lead, manage and coach COLQ staff to foster a high-performance, collaborative, and inclusive culture
  • Ensure active and appropriate performance agreements, performance objectives and development plans are in place for all staff
  • Communicate operational expectations clearly, ensuring staff understand priorities, responsibilities, and their contribution to organisational outcomes.

Education/Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in law , management and/or education (preferably at Masters level) or in pursuit thereof, or equivalent senior professional experience within the legal profession.

 Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • Strong understanding of current education and training needs and dynamics of the QLD legal profession.
  • Leadership experience in a professional (preferably, legal and/or education) environment
  • Leadership applied in various contexts including organisational management and planning, staff and students
  • Experience in developing and managing relationships with business partners, law firms and government authorities
  • Proven skills managing successful and harmonious teams
  • Experience and skills in the application of information technology in a professional or educational context with the ability to adopt and champion digital solutions.
