EOI - Adjunct Lecturers and Oral Assessors - PLT/GDLP (NSW)

Job Description

Adjunct Lecturers and Oral Assessors - PLT/GDLP (NSW)

Following recent NSW Legal Profession Admission Board’s mandated changes to Practical Legal Training (PLT), the College is looking for Independent Contractors to engage as Lecturers or Assessors in our NSW PLT Program.

The College of Law invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified legal practitioners who wish to be engaged as Lecturers or Oral Assessors from July 2026.  Engagement in these Adjunct roles is conducted on an as needed and when required basis.

Lecturer Roles

The College of Law delivers practical legal training programs that lead to direct admission as a Lawyer in New South Wales. The program includes a one-week face to face Lawyer’s Skills Week (a series of all-day workshops). This Skills Week is followed by blended teaching consisting of an additional 10 days of face to face and 12 weeks of online teaching, in a variety of formats, providing flexibility for students and academic staff.

Lecturers may be required to deliver a combination of in-person teaching, providing feedback on coursework submissions, general student administration, conducting oral assessments and otherwise mentoring students during the course, across all subject areas.

Assessor Roles

Oral assessments are conducted on a continual basis throughout the year via on-line web-conference in 1-hour (compulsory subjects) or 45-minute (elective subjects) sessions, across a range of 12 Practice areas. They are scheduled between 8:00am and 5:00pm during the week, in morning or afternoon blocks and availability for blocks of 4 hours is preferred.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following essential criteria for engagement for either role:

  •  A tertiary qualification or equivalent in Law and currently admitted, or eligible to apply for admission, to practise Law as a Lawyer in NSW.
  • At least 5 years recent post admission experience as a legal practitioner in NSW. Barristers and solicitors are encouraged to apply.
  • An enthusiasm for the practice of Law and an ability to communicate that enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrated teaching skills, or a capacity and willingness to undertake training in instructional methods.
  • Skills in the use of technology, in particular Student LMS and video-conferencing platforms.
  • After training, it is anticipated that you will be able to conduct oral assessments and online lecturing responsibilities from your home or office.  A reliable computer and internet connection are a prerequisite.
