About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for recent law graduates or final year law students who are interested in developing a career in compliance within the financial services industry. The successful candidate will join the Compliance and Risk Division of a major player in the financial services / insurance sector, contributing to incident assessment and compliance monitoring activities that support effective risk management.
This full time contract role is ideal for candidates seeking practical, hands-on experience in compliance and regulatory affairs. While prior experience in compliance or financial services is advantageous, it is not essential - law students or graduates with strong analytical, communication, and research skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of a senior compliance lead, the successful candidate will assist with the following responsibilities:
- Supporting the business in identifying, managing, and documenting compliance incidents.
- Gathering and reviewing relevant investigation materials to support breach assessments.
- Coordinating with stakeholders to collate and validate supporting documentation.
- Recording incidents and outcomes in relevant compliance systems and registers.
- Reviewing materials for alignment with applicable codes and regulatory obligations.
- Drafting preliminary assessments and summaries for internal and external reporting.
- Assisting with preparation of submissions to regulatory bodies as required.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience (Not Essential)
- An interest in or working knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as:
- Corporations Act & Regulations
- ASIC Act and Regulatory Guides
- Insurance Contracts Act
- General Insurance Code of Practice
- APRA Prudential Standards
- Familiarity with risk and compliance frameworks is beneficial.
- Previous experience in compliance, legal, financial services, or insurance sectors is helpful but not mandatory.

- Ability to interpret legislation and regulatory guidance, or seek clarification where needed.
- Critical thinking and the ability to identify risks and assess supporting information.

- potentially a law graduate awaiting admission or commencement of a 2027 grad role; OR
- someone who has just graduated and is keen to explore diverse opportunities on a short term basis before committing to a long term career path; OR
- a law graduate who is interested in applying their studies in a practical environment that is not necessarily a law firm
Though this contract is offered on contract basis, this client has offered extensions and permanent employment to Yegal candidates previously (at their sole discretion and subject to performance)
