The HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) is currently looking for two Volunteer Casework Paralegals to join our team for a May 2026 start.
About the organisation:
HALC is a community legal centre that provides free legal services to people affected by, and those most at risk of, HIV and/or Hepatitis on related legal matters.
We deal with a range of HIV and/or hepatitis related legal issues including -
Position Description:
Volunteers perform a variety of day-to-day tasks including -
Essential criteria:
We request volunteers to commit to at least 3 days a week, over Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm for a minimum of two months. We do not need students on Mondays.
Please send in your brief resume and cover letter addressing the selection criteria indicating the number of days and specific days you will be able to work for, to admin@halc.org.au
Unfortunately, due to the limited resources of our Centre, only applicants that progress to the next stage will be contacted.
HALC’s vision is to see an end to the HIV/AIDS crisis and does so by providing high quality legal services whilst displaying an appreciation of, and sensitivity to, the special needs of people with an HIV related legal matter; undertaking community legal education; and engaging in law reform activities in areas relating to HIV/AIDS.
To deal with these particular issues, we adopted a different service delivery model to most other community legal centres. Rather than a triage service that provides initial advice and referral, we focus on ongoing casework and routinely run longer and more complex matters in order to achieve genuine, systemic change.
