Abrahams Meese Lawyers (AML) is a small CBD commercial law firm with substantial expertise in litigation, property, business and private-client work that is seeking to grow its team via the addition of at least one smart and friendly lawyer with a strong academic record and highly developed organisational skills. The job will suit a person who has a thirst to learn his or her trade, proactively manages files from the outset and will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment working on a wide range of often complex matters for a diverse set of clients including businesses of a range of sizes and high-net-worth individuals.
The position offers substantial client contact and a great deal of access to — and mentorship from — two highly regarded partners with considerable expertise in their fields of the law. AML’s staff work in a small boutique structure focused on litigation and high-value transactions, so work from our open-plan Bourke street office in a cooperative, informal and quality-focused office environment on tasks which frequently emerge at the last minute and surprise and challenge junior lawyers. No two weeks working at AML will ever be the same. With the unpredictability, urgency and breadth of the practice comes a rare opportunity to develop the skills needed to become a trusted lawyer to demanding clients on complex matters across a wide range of areas of commercial law.
For this recruitment round, AML is not prioritising specific experience, but the kind of person who would not be afraid of — but would take full advantage of — such an environment, a person who knows how to manage their time and workload effectively, takes initiative and thinks laterally to solve problems, takes pride in doing things properly, even when under time pressure, and wants to become a commercial lawyer of the future possessing key legal and non-legal skills applicable across the whole spectrum of legal practice. While the firm is looking primarily for recent graduates who are already — or about to be — qualified to practise law, the firm is prepared to accommodate more senior lawyers with the skill-set that would fit AML’s needs.
Salary is negotiable at market rates depending on experience and regularly reassessed in light of performance. Discretionary bonuses are generally paid at the end of the financial year and the end of the calendar year and are determined by the firm’s financial performance and the specific employee’s contribution thereto.
If you are interested in the role, please send an application including a curriculum vitae and a copy of your full academic transcript by email to careers@aml.law.
