Job Description

About Al-Jarrah Lawyers

Al-Jarrah Lawyers is a growing Sydney-based law firm providing legal services across commercial litigation, corporate and business disputes, insolvency, family law, taxation, employment law and other complex legal matters.

We are seeking a motivated, academically accomplished and reliable individual to join our team as a Volunteer Paralegal for approximately three days per week.

This opportunity is particularly suited to a current law student or recent law graduate who wishes to gain practical exposure to legal practice, develop their legal skills and experience the day-to-day operations of a professional legal environment.

About the Role

  1. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside our legal team and gain exposure to various aspects of legal practice, including:
  2. Assisting solicitors with legal research, case preparation and general administrative support.
  3. Preparing draft legal correspondence, court documents and other legal materials under supervision.
  4. Assisting with the preparation and organisation of evidence, briefs to counsel and disclosure documents.
  5. Reviewing and summarising legal documents, authorities and relevant case materials.
  6. Developing an understanding of court procedures, litigation processes and legal practice management systems.
  7. Supporting solicitors with ongoing matters and other tasks as required.
  8. The nature and complexity of the work undertaken will depend on the candidate's experience, demonstrated abilities and the firm's operational requirements.
  9. Academic Requirements and Candidate Expectations
  10. We maintain high academic and professional standards and are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, initiative and a genuine commitment to developing their legal careers.
  11. Applicants must have achieved a minimum Distinction average in their law studies. Applications from candidates whose academic results fall below a Distinction average will not be considered.
  12. Candidates must also demonstrate professionalism, reliability, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a legal team.
  13. Previous experience in a law firm is desirable but not essential. We place considerable emphasis on academic achievement, willingness to learn and the ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.

Potential for Future Paid Employment

Although this opportunity is initially advertised on a volunteer basis, there may be scope for the successful candidate to be considered for a paid position within the firm.

Any such opportunity will depend on the candidate's performance, demonstrated capabilities, professional conduct, suitability for the firm and our operational requirements at the relevant time.

We emphasise that future paid employment is not guaranteed, and no representation is made that a paid position will necessarily become available.

How to Apply

Interested applicants must submit the following documents for consideration:

Curriculum Vitae (Resume): An up-to-date resume outlining educational qualifications, relevant experience and professional skills.

Academic Transcript: A copy of the applicant's current or completed law degree transcript demonstrating a minimum Distinction average.

Cover Letter: A brief covering letter outlining the applicant's interest in the opportunity, career aspirations and reasons for seeking experience with Al-Jarrah Lawyers.

Availability: Confirmation of the three days per week the applicant would be available to attend our Enfield office.

Applications that do not include a resume and academic transcript will not be considered.

Only applicants who satisfy the minimum academic requirements and demonstrate suitability for the position will be shortlisted and contacted.
